Show Notes

Brief summary of the February 2023 paper in the Journal of the American Medical Association on the meta-analysis of 3 randomised controlled trials of oral vitamin D to reduce the risk of type 2 Diabetes for pre-diabetic individuals

Diabetes is a growing problem in the UK, according to Diabetes UK since 1996 the rates have risen from 1.4 million to 3.9 million.  And that’s not including those undiagnosed, which they estimate takes the real figure to 4.8 million of us.  But it gets worse, as they predict that by 2025 5.3 million of us will be living with type 2 diabetes.  Out of a population of 67 million of us, that’s 7.9% of us.

The study which included 4190 people and was a meta analysis (which essentially pools the results of other studies on the subjects and combines them statistically to get the bigger picture across numerous studies) that found that taking vitamin D reduced the risk of them going on to develop type 2 Diabetes
